Giving Tuesday 2023

Hundreds of alumni, parents, and friends came forward on this global day of giving to raise $85,000.

At a time when more students than ever before are experiencing barriers to completing their education, the UMass Amherst community answered the call to boost student support on Giving Tuesday. Within just one day, November 28, donors made gifts totaling approximately $85,000 to help the university expand access, address emergency needs, and set students on a path to success.

The two goals of all fundraising through the UMass Amherst Foundation are to inspire donors to give to the parts of the university that resonate with them and to ensure that faculty and students have the tools they need to thrive.

Student Needs Support: 400 new meal swipes for food insecure students
Scholarships: 11 students will receive $1,000 in scholarships each
Overall: There were 446 total gifts made. $85,000 donated, and 159 different areas of campus supported

This year, more than 446 donors supported 159 different aspects of academic and campus life on Giving Tuesday. As a result, 11 students will receive $1,000 scholarships, food-insecure students can take advantage of 400 new meal swipes through the Food Security Fund, and the Student Supply Closet will be restocked with toiletries and other necessities.

As Chancellor Javier Reyes mentioned in his Giving Tuesday message, building community is at the heart of what we do every day. The UMass Amherst community continues to demonstrate an unmatched commitment to the welfare of students and the kind of teaching, research, and service that makes a difference in the commonwealth and far beyond.
